The technical upgrade from MATIC to POL marks a critical juncture for Polygon networks, enhancing utility and aligning with the vision of Polygon as an aggregated network of blockchains. In the initial phase, POL suceeds MATIC as the native gas and staking token for the Polygon PoS network. In subsequent phases, POL will serve a crucial role in the AggLayer.
The upgrade from MATIC to POL is anticipated to be seamless. The testnet upgrade of MATIC → POL was already successfully executed on July 17th, 2024.
